say hello to phineas!

introducing phineas d. houlihound!
i finally decided that it was time to get back in the game - so to speak. the 2 months i've been without otis and sadie have been heartbreaking and really just emphasized what an important part of my life dogs had become.
so i resolved that once i got back from hawaii i would look into adopting a new buddy. i had the founder of the friend for pets foundation - a rescue organization that specializes in weimaraners and who otis and sadie were adopted from - come and check out my backyard about 2 hours after i landed in l.a. then that sunday i went to their facility where they currently have about 70 dogs all looking for homes. i met phin (then called vince) and instantly fell in love. i took a week to think things over and then i had him spend the weekend with me . challenging weekend but rewarding and again it really made me realize how much i love dogs. i thought i was going to bring him back to the shelter and sit on it another week to see how much i missed him but the drive back to the shelter was so sad for me that i adopted him instead of returning him.

with a face like that how could i not?
anyhow, he was picked up as a stray in bakersfield with no collar and no tags. someone obviously loved him because he had clipped nails, clean ears, good coat and good weight. and since he's only about a year old he's got an almost overwhelming amount of exuberance and energy (maybe why he was abandoned). he's got some issues as most rescues - and certainly most puppies - do but it's nothing insurmountable or untrainable.

sure am looking forward to some great years with this guy...
