jim and i ran 23 miles today!
not that the feat was easy by any stretch of theimagination but neither was it as excruciatingly difficult as the 20 miler we did 3 weeks ago. we had our issues - of course. jim only slept for maybe 30 minutes the night before which led to a bit of delerium and significant exhaustion about midway through the run. and it was unusually hot... probably upper 80s. which is never easy to run long distances in. i started having my usual ankle/instep pains... this time, though, they were more in my left foot. i mixed it up quite a bit today though - new arch support inserts in my shoes (brilliant - should have bought them sooner), new neoprene ankle brace for the problems i thought i was going to have with my right foot (equally brilliant - gonna get a 2nd one just in case), new sports drink mix with a higher electrolyte mixture and less sugar (also brilliant - gotta get more), and i also carried hydration with me for the first time instead of relying on the pit stops every 3 miles or so.
all in all it was - again - a huge learning experience in the ways the body adapts to extreme circumstances.

(proof)
i think we're ready for the race.
