TWENTY
this past saturday jim and i ran 20 miles - what has to be the most difficult physical task i've ever completed.
once i finished, i actually and very unexpectedly broke down for a little bit. max - who was crewing for us instead because he decided to run the long beach marathon the next day - said this kind of stuff happens. that you're digging down so deep just to finish that once you do you're just overcome with emotion. which is what happened. i was in so much pain during the last 5 miles or so that i eventually had to walk for 10 minutes and then run for as long as i could and then walk again for another 10 minutes or so to allow the cramping and fatigue to subside. seriously man. i don't know how i did it but i did it.
there are several factors that could have contributed to the physical effects... taking too long of water breaks, not enough electrolytes, the fact that i hadn't run a step since the 18 miler 2 weeks ago, or maybe it was the fatigue leading me to run sloppy which seems to be the source of the problems i'm having with my right ankle.
or maybe it's the fact that it was 20 goddamn miles. doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, i guess.
gotta book a massage appointment for myself.
in 2 weeks jim and i are supposed to do 23 miles - again without max who's going on a nice long vacation to italy. i'm trying to figure out ways to stow away inside his luggage.
