over half way there!
today we hit a huge milestone in our training for the vegas marathon... 14 miles! - link 1 (mapmyrun.com) and link 2 (motionbased.com upload from my gps unit). and honestly we felt so good at the end of it we could have probably kept going for another 3 or 4 miles. unreal.
no aches to speak of really - just a little right ankle thing around mile 12 but otherwise i felt STRONG. i still can't believe the distance we covered and that i'm really only a little sore (though ravenously hungry). we had a support crew today. max's wife robyn and jim's fiancée teresa met us every 3 or 4 miles to give us water, orange slices, cold washcloths. what troopers they were and what a difference it made. unbelievable. where i was unsure before, i can now totally see making the full 26.2 with a support crew.
we had a fuckup, though, around mile 4... max had to use the bathroom and, instead of stopping and waiting for him, jim and i soldiered on... big mistake. max thought we were using the bathroom too and waited there for us meanwhile jim and i were already way down the road... a misunderstanding that ended up costing us all a lot of time. lesson learned i guess.
the other thing we encountered today for the first time was the masses of people training for the l.a. marathon and their completely oblivious, pack mentality. multiple pace groups of literally 20 to 30 people each hogging up the road, being inconsiderate and not watching where they are or who they're around. at one point jim and i got caught up in one of the groups that had apparently reached their mileage goal. they suddenly stopped leaving us to fend and weave ourselves through them - not cool. jim actually got hit in the face with a water bottle by some girl not watching what she was doing. the pace leaders need to do a better job of reigning that shit in and the runners need to be more aware. you guys aren't the only ones out there!
ok off my soapbox now...
next week is 7 miles and then the week after that... 16 miles. doesn't seem so impossible anymore.
